NATURAL IS BEST FLAGSHIP FEATURED IN SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST: LIFESTYLE/ARTS & CULTURE

Updated: Feb 22, 2023

Designed by METAGRAM, LightOrigin Studio's retail lighting project was featured South China Morning Post.

We are delighted that our project Natural is Best is featured in SCMP's Lifestyle/Arts & Culture column!

Located at The West Kowloon's Xiqu Centre, Natural is Best is an established snack food retailer. The new flagship store pays homage to Chinese Opera and Xiqu Centre; a colourful theatrical approach to its interior aesthetics.

LightOrigin Studio was engaged at the start of the project and worked in tandem with the interior designer John Chow of METAGRAM, client and Ms. Naomi Chung (Head of Performing Arts (Xiqu)) to develop a scheme that would simulate a visit to the theatre. The challenge was to design a lighting experience with a theatrical approach while maintaining appropriate retail lighting.

“Light was extremely important in creating the theatrical atmosphere, so it was a core element in our design,” Chow says. “We worked very closely with Eugenia Cheng of LightOrigin Studio, a boutique architectural lighting design studio. “Her involvement was critical in illuminating the different features, and achieving the right colours, particularly the lanterns in front which, in reality, take on a very warm white glow rather than a very sterile white appearance that can be uninviting.”
